Disabilities We Cover

The six categories recognised under clause 2(zc) of the RPwD Act, 2016 for para chess in India

Eligibility: Indian nationals with a benchmark disability of 40% or above (UDID card or government disability certificate mandatory). CFPD National Championships require not below 50% disability. Categories at events typically include Open, Women, Wheelchair Men, Wheelchair Women, Under-19 Boys and Under-19 Girls.

Locomotor Disability (चलन दिव्यांगता)

Restricted movement of limbs or body due to conditions affecting bones, joints or muscles — including amputation, polio-affected limbs and spinal cord injuries. Players may use wheelchairs, crutches, calipers or prosthetics.

♟ At our events: Wheelchair-accessible venues, reachable boards and adjustable table heights are arranged. Wheelchair users have dedicated competition categories.

Cerebral Palsy (प्रमस्तिष्क पक्षाघात)

A group of permanent movement and posture disorders caused by damage to the developing brain, often affecting muscle coordination, speech and fine motor control.

♟ At our events: Players who cannot physically move pieces may declare moves verbally or with assistive devices; an assistant or the arbiter executes the move on the board as per FIDE rules for disabled players.

Dwarfism (बौनापन)

A medical or genetic condition resulting in short stature, typically an adult height of 4 feet 10 inches (147 cm) or less.

♟ At our events: Seating, table heights and equipment placement are adapted so players compete in full comfort.

Muscular Dystrophy (पेशीय दुर्विकास)

A group of progressive genetic disorders that weaken and break down skeletal muscles over time, gradually reducing mobility and strength.

♟ At our events: Extended time controls assistance, move-declaration support and rest-friendly scheduling are available where medically certified.

Acid Attack Victims (एसिड हमले से पीड़ित)

Persons disfigured or disabled due to violent assault by acid or similar corrosive substances, recognised as a disability under the RPwD Act 2016.

♟ At our events: A dignified, supportive playing environment with privacy-respecting registration and media policies.

Leprosy Cured (कुष्ठ रोग मुक्त)

Persons cured of leprosy but left with loss of sensation in hands or feet, or deformity preventing normal activity, recognised under the RPwD Act 2016.

♟ At our events: Piece-handling assistance is provided where finger deformity makes precise movement difficult; assistants may execute declared moves.

Fair Play & FIDE Rules for Disabled Players

All MPCFPD events follow the FIDE Handbook provisions for players with disabilities:

Players unable to move pieces may declare moves; an assistant or arbiter executes them
Players unable to press the clock may have it pressed on their behalf
Accessible venues, ground-floor halls and reachable boards for wheelchair users
One escort/caretaker per player is accommodated at all our events
